Why I Named It Mulleinda: Honouring My Mother Through the Mullein Plant

When I created Mulleinda, it wasn’t just a business—it was a tribute. A living, breathing way to carry on the spirit of someone who meant everything to me: my mother, Linda, who passed away in August 2024.
The name Mulleinda is a blending of two powerful forces—mullein, the ancient plant medicine, and Linda, the woman who taught me how to love, protect, nurture, and believe in old wisdom. This isn’t just a name. It’s her memory, carried in every soft, velvety leaf.
My Mother, Linda: A Soft Soul with Strong Roots
My mom was Scottish, full of stories, superstitions, and old wives’ tales she swore by. She was the kind of woman who always had a home remedy, who wrapped us in soft blankets, kissed our foreheads when we were sick, and somehow always knew when something was about to happen.
She raised my brother and me with tenderness and strength—teaching us the value of kindness, the importance of nature, and the healing power of tradition. She had a deep belief in the mystical and the sacred, always saying things like, “don’t sweep over someone’s feet” or “always keep lavender at the door.” And you know what? She was always right.

After she passed, I kept seeing mullein everywhere. It grows wild and free, in places you don’t expect. Just like her, it appears when you need it most. Its soft, woolly leaves feel like her touch—comforting, grounding, protective. It’s a plant used for centuries to heal the lungs and soothe the spirit, and it just made sense.
Mullein grows in Scotland too, just like it grows here in Ontario. It's been used in traditional Celtic herbalism and has long been a symbol of protection, healing, and home. The more I learned about it, the more I felt like this plant was her. Every time I hold a leaf, I feel like she’s with me.
Mulleinda is Mullein + Linda. It’s my way of keeping her close and sharing her essence with the world. It’s a sacred offering—each tea blend, smoke bundle, or dried leaf carries the love she poured into our lives.
I believe she guided me to this plant. And now I’m sharing that guidance with others. Because mullein isn’t just a remedy—it’s a reminder of softness, of care, and of the deep-rooted love between a mother and her children.
In Loving Memory of Linda
